Dear Colleagues and Partners in the Human Settlements Industry
In my capacity as Human Settlements Technical Advisor, I would like to offer my services to you as architect and built environment specialist in the pursuit of our common goal to present all South Africans with the opportunity to be sheltered in sustainable and prosperous communities. Being a Professional Architect, I am very aware of the unique economic, environmental and time constraints that challenge our industry, and how these can impact on project outcomes.
Part of my responsibilities at the Cement & Concrete Institute is to inform you of sustainable and cost effective concrete applications and to provide you with the latest information regarding alternative technologies in cement and concrete, in order to contribute to the enhancement of the quality of the housing stock that we are providing to our communities.
In line with the global ‘one planet living’ objective, the construction sector has an increasing responsibility to utilize non-renewable resources more efficiently during the construction process, and an equally important responsibility to create a built environment that is resource and energy efficient, which enables our communities to use our planet’s resources responsibly.
The Cement & Concrete Institute proudly supports initiatives that promote this objective. I look forward to sharing with you some of the initiatives being pursued in order to achieve this goal, especially within the realm of subsidized and affordable housing.
Finally, I would like to assure you that the Cement & Concrete Institute is passionately committed to the Human Settlements industry. We would like to assist you by providing free technical advice, as well as access to an extensive information database through our Information Centre, interactive website and publications. Further to that, our School of Concrete Technology is committed to improving skills and quality by providing a range of courses with varying levels of difficulty. We also support the Human Settlements drive by providing focused sponsorships to industry-related conferences and events.
