New from the school of Concrete Technology
The skills shortage in the Construction Industry, which has had such wide coverage in the trade press, continues unabated, and the need for training has become more urgent than ever. It has, however, become apparent that the time available for staff to be away from the workplace attending courses has diminished – and the more senior the staff, the less time that is available.
The School of Concrete Technology (SCT) is pleased, therefore, to announce that it is now in a position to present a series of short-duration courses in addition to its well established and respected curriculum. The target audience will range from professional engineers, architects and builders to site staff performing essential operations to ensure that the quality of concrete produced is of the specified standard. The new courses are of a half- or one-day duration and generally address topics within the broader subject of concrete technology.
Training has become an essential activity, underscored by SAICE and the CETA. Accreditation from SAICE for training material suitable for CPD (Continued Professional Development) will enable learners to accumulate credits towards professional registration. Accreditation from the CETA will enable learners to accumulate credits towards a learnership and allow the employers to claim back a portion of the money paid in skills levies. Advertised accredited courses offered by the SCT enjoy accreditation from one or both of these accrediting bodies.
The SCT will strive to service the training needs of the building and construction industries by presenting courses that cater for all levels of personnel in a manner that will minimise disruption in the workplace at this busy time in the industry. The SCT will be seen to be embracing the challenge of reducing the skills shortage currently being experienced in the industry.
