Qualification levels and unit standards have been set by the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) as follows:

Please note that the equivalence shown in the table above is not exact. There is a problem in matching the previous construction industry worker levels to the NQF levels; there is also a problem in matching school grades to construction qualification levels. For example: NQF level 4 is accepted to be at school grade 12 or matric level, and yet a construction supervisor or foreman is at the same level. Knowledge and responsibility clearly do not line up.
