Once a qualification has been drafted, it is checked by the SGB (Standards Generating Body) for broad compliance with the standards set out for qualifications. These are broadly as follows:
National Certificate 120 credits
National Diploma 240 credits
Degree 360 credits
When the SGB is happy that the qualification has enough credits and is in the correct format, it is advertised for industry-wide comments and input. Input received is sifted and considered and added to the document if relevant.
The Standards Generating Body (SGB) checks the document and submits it to SAQA (the South African Qualifications Authority) for registration on the NQF. The qualifications and unit standards are administered by the Sectoral Education and Training Authority (SETA). In our case that will be CETA (the Construction Education and Training Authority). CETA is responsible for the quality of training and for recording all persons that have been assessed against any unit standards or qualifications.
